Philips introduces TV & Audio products based on DTS Play-Fi
Today, DTS & Philips have even more to share on the recent announcement of DTS Play-Fi enabled Philips TV products, as well as an announcement on a new range of audio products from Philip that include DTS Play-Fi.
Philips recently announced that the new Philips OLED805 series would be the first model from a premium TV brand to include DTS Play-Fi within the set, but it would not be the last. Philips is including DTS Play-Fi in all 2020 Philips Android TVs followed by an over-the-air firmware update to bring DTS Play-Fi to all 2019 Philips Android TVs due in the 2nd half of 2020.
TVs featuring Play-Fi offer the industry’s most advanced wireless audio feature set. Philips TVs featuring Play-Fi are the only Android TV systems on the market that support:
- Multi-room Music - Grouping of TVs and speakers together for multi-room music playback from top music services with sub-millisecond accuracy
- Multi-room TV Audio – The “Big Game” mode that allows TV audio to flow all through the house with no echo or AV sync issues.
- App-based Private Listening - An app-based wireless headphone experience with the range and quality of Wi-Fi. Unlike Bluetooth, users have the freedom to roam everywhere they have a Wi-Fi signal, and up to 3 people may simultaneously listen together.
Philips will also launch a new range of DTS Play-Fi equipped soundbars and wireless speakers in September 2020 to offer users the option of a complete, easy-to-use, seamlessly connected Philips streaming audio system throughout their home.
DTS Play-Fi is a premium wireless audio ecosystem for whole-home music, whole-home TV audio, and app-based private listening supporting high-resolution audio streaming and sub-millisecond playback accuracy. Compatible products, including TVs, mobile devices, sound bars, and speakers seamlessly interoperate to form a complete whole-home entertainment experience, even across brands, so all the products announced today will work with existing DTS Play-Fi products in the market.

I don’t understand why playfi has such limited options once you transfer to device? Why can’t you offer all the options that are available when the controller is in the data path?

Hey Phil,
It’s something we can do, and we’re working on it. It’s also something that we’ll refresh the user interface around, but that will be news for another day, so stay tuned.

Will you add lossless “critical listening” when transfering to the device? It doesn’t make sense that it goes to CD quality when doing it to only one device.

Hi DTS Play-Fi Team,
I noticed that Amazon Music started working in Canada. I have been waiting for this for over 2 years. woohooo!
In respond to this, I upgraded my Amazon account to Unlimited and I noticed the features on the iOS Play-Fi app for Amazon Music is very limited compared to Tidal. For example, you cannot see the bitrate/bit depth, you cannot add music to favourites, etc. Is this something that your team is working on improving or is this us Canadians need to wait for Amazon to respond to? Thanks!
-Caboom!
