Important Google Cast Update for Setup and Multiroom
Due to a recent legal ruling, Google is making some changes to Google Cast regarding how Speaker Group functionality will work moving forward for all supported products, including those built with DTS Play-Fi. If you’re using the Speaker Group feature to control the volume in the Google Home app, by voice with the Google Assistant, or directly on your Nest Hub display, you’ll notice a few changes:
- To adjust volume on your speaker groups, you will need to adjust each speaker individually instead of using the group volume controller. You’ll also no longer be able to change your Speaker Group volume using your phone’s physical volume button.
- Speaker Groups will be disbanded and stop functioning at the current Google Cast version, and all products whether Google-branded or from 3rd parties, need to be on 1.52.272222 or higher Cast firmware version to resume grouping functionality. For DTS Play-Fi products featuring Google Cast, the update can be obtained by downloading the the DTS Play-Fi app version 7.1 or higher scheduled to be available week 5 of 2022. It also possible to download the manual update package for USB update from this website as well.
- Google Home setup will also not work for these products until they are updated, and it is instead advised to do setup via the DTS Play-Fi app, which will also update the products to the latest version upon setup completion.
We will continue to support our users and work with Google to minimize any additional changes.
